Using Weed and Natural Sleep Spray Products for Better Rest

Published / by GreenDesk

Curated recent article excerpt touching on using weed and natural alternatives to improve sleep, with products comparable to sprayble melatonin, and similar sprayable sleep products:

…PROBLEM: You stay up late at night scrolling through your news feed, kept awake by the endless litany of horrific new executive orders and bizarre tweets. Every time you close your eyes, you see an orange-headed, hollow-eyed Cheeto monster. He haunts your nightmares.

You’ll definitely want to lean toward indica strains—known for their deeply relaxed, glued-to-the-couch-type effects and a great salve for insomnia. Sara Fletcher, the procurement manager and “resident sleep doctor” for Dockside Cannabis, recommends what she calls “sleep-forward strains.”

“Sleep-forward strains,” she explains, “are products that are going to help you kick your feet up a little bit more and promote relaxation.” Strains like Granddaddy Purple, Afghan Kush, and Purple Kush will blanket your senses with calming effects and, possibly, stop those racing Trump-train thoughts.

“Sometimes one of the greatest things that keeps us from falling asleep is us,” she says. “Just our brain turning in circles and trying to figure things out—sleep-forward strains help stop your treadmill of thoughts.”

It’s all in the terpenes, you see—chemical compounds that provide the flavor and aroma of the plant, like in a bouquet. Terpenes attach themselves to various receptors in the brain, yielding various effects. Strains high in the terpene linalool, which occurs naturally in flowers and herbs like lavender and coriander, help promote serenity.

“It has a really similar effect,” explains Fletcher, “to imbibing actual lavender by tea or even just smelling the essential oil.” Grape Ape is also a great sleep-forward strain—”a classic,” Fetcher says, that “smells like candy and tastes like an IPA.”

For those times when you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, Fletcher recommends keeping a spray like the Enchantmint Breathspray on your nightstand. Spray it under your tongue—it will absorb sublingually and be in your bloodstream within 10 minutes.

Another option is a tincture called Deep Sleep, which has herbal extracts, a touch of sweet orange essential oils, and a high CBD-to-THC ratio. For a more sustained effect that will take longer to set in, eat some Swifts truffles an hour before bedtime.

And stay away from the news, Fletcher recommends. “Watch some Netflix,” she says. “Or silly baby-animal videos.”

Forskolin Products Lack Toxicity, Says Study

Published / by GreenDesk

Recent study demonstrates a popular GNC forskoline supplement shows no negative effects when ingested in the amounts recommended.

East Windsor, NJ—The International Journal of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Research recently published a paper about a branded ingredient’s safety record in a small-animal study.

Sabinsa Corporation and Sami Labs founder Muhammed Majeed, Ph.D., lead researcher, concentrated on his company’s patented Coleus forskohlii extract (ForsLean). Groups of five male and female rats took 10% forskolin (as Forslean) at 2,000 mg/kg body weight and were observed for two weeks for any sign of toxicity. In a separate 28-day arm of the study, daily doses of 100, 300 and 1,000 mg/kg body were administered. Last, in another segment, groups of 20 male and 20 female rats took 10% forskolin for 180 days at daily dose levels of 500 mg/kg and 1,000 mg/kg body weight.

After all testing, no rats died and no major changes in hematology and serum biochemistry values were found between the active and control groups. In addition, body weight changes were normal, no organ damage was found and no signs of toxicity were uncovered.

The authors state, “In conclusion, the ‘No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL)’ of CF extract was determined to be above 1,000 mg/kg b.wt/day.”

Providers React to CBD Oil Regulatory Changes

Published / by GreenDesk

With Alabama joining Virginia this month in passing legislation that approves or regulates the medicinal use of cannabis oil (cannabidiol, or CBD), and other states already following suit, increasing numbers of providers are preparing to meet the demand for the compound. These 17 states, among them Colorado, Texas, along with a pending bill in Oklahoma, join an expanding list of countries (including Brazil, and New Zealand) who have recently granted expanded access to medical marijuana derived compounds.

According to Quadratum, a producer and advocate of medicinal CBD oil use based in Alamosa, Colorado, there is a rising awareness of its therapeutic benefits, and growing need for modern, environment-CBD Oil Capsulesfriendly production facilities to capitalize on its legal status. “What we’re finding is there’s a wide open frontier, in terms of what it can do, and what we’re seeing in terms of treatment of patients. People with a wide variety of diseases and ailments are seeing real, true healing,” reports Emmy award winning journalist Ben Swann.

“There’s actually not nearly enough people (producing) it right now. There are enormous backlogs of cancer patients, people with Crohns disease, and people with epilepsy who are on waiting list to receive the CBD oil. There’s not enough production going on, to meet the demand right now. Which of course makes the cost of CBD higher than it needs to be.” Swann suggests the federal government may also be holding up production, as it has not moved as quickly as many states in approving it for medicinal use.

CBD oil currently remains on the Schedule I drug list due to its derivation from the marijuana plant. There is also a concern, in light of the expanded access, that new producers should conform to a higher standard of practice and quality control when generating cannabis oil products. Quadratum on its site has announced “we currently use no pesticides or herbicides on our farm, and we are in the process of acquiring USDA Organic Certification. We want our customers to be able to buy the best, most wholesome CBD oil and hemp products possible.”
